What motivates someone, first step.

I recently worked with a few personalities that made me think giving someone a opportunity could not only change the way they work but also the way they live.

This is not as easy as it sounds and several factors need to be considered before leading a person towards what you need them to be. During a personal study I found that very little people could motivate me because they use their personal value filter to find what motivates a person without taking into account the true nature of the person.

We all have a sense of duty to self and value certain things above others. The idea is to set your personal interest aside and not look at the person using your personal value filter. You must find the person you are dealing with in the person you are dealing with. This sounds odd but needs to happen to achieve your goal.

The first step is to find out what the person loves and what makes them feel excited. Don't think money as this is a obvious thing that everyone is motivated by. Although this is the main motivator that drives any person it's not the only one. You will be surprised how many people need to earn money but are in their occupation for a different reason. Think in the line of a kid that dreams of becoming a doctor. At that point little Johnny's only interest is helping people that got hurt or listening to everyone's hart beat while handing out candy as medicine.

So every person you work with has a little something they love doing in the work that they do. I am using the word 'work' deliberately becuase this would apply to any action of personal development ranging from an occupation to sport. It is up to you to find that something and make sure the person gets a opportunity to practice it if only for 30min every day. You will soon find a all new and highly motivated individual that does not just show up for a money or reputation sake.

One of the quotes I recently read made a grand statement. 'Watch carefully the magic that occurs when you give a person just enough comfort to be themselves' - Atticus. This is a great statement but ask yourself, is the 'themselves' that you find the one that could lead the person to success or help you achieve your goals? No, but it is a crucial part of what you will need to achieve your goals.
